Soon after independence, many African countries found themselves in Civil Wars and Chaos. There are many factors behind that situation. Some of them are border conflicts like Tanzania and Uganda in 1970s, Somalia and Kenya in 1980s etc. Again tribalism and religious extremism are other aspect leading us into civil wars, like the chaos happening in Nigeria today including Biafra war in Nigeria in 1960’s, as well as in Kenya, Sudan and Somalia.

Another issue is greediness of power among Africa politicians also creates a lot of disputes e.g N.R.A rebellions in Uganda and Al-Shabaab rebellions in Somalia etc.

African countries/African Union seems to be like the toothless bull dog(s) when it comes to opposing this situation or it might be that our countries don’t bite enough: for example, the Organization of Africa Union (O.A.U) which today is known as African Union (A.U); by then failed to remove UNITA rebellions in Angola until 2002 when Jonas Savimbi died himself; also O.A.U turned a blind eye on genocide happened in Rwanda; And we didn’t aggressively resist against Biafra or fully organize ourselves for disciplinary measures against Al-Shabaab in Somalia; neither end Civil War in Sudan, Congo D.R.C nor settle disputes in Egypt, even to stop the movements of tuareg rebellion in Mali.

Me individually as an African Youth, I believe the rest of youth people in Tanzania, Norway and the World will support the idea of putting more stresses to the A.U to do a lot more than the good job it is doing with consideration that Africa itself economically struggle even to stand for itself, war is another heavy and expensive burden to it.

Being the object which keeps and maintain peace in the world, United Nations has opened eyes on African Civil Wars from the Human Development Report of 2011; UNDP tries to spread the ideas of Democracy and Good Governance in Africa. Also UN provides the reconciliation and conflict resolution, for example in Sierra Leone, Syria and Ivory Coast.

But only this is not sufficient/enough, we need UN to stop Neo-Colonialism in Africa. UN must ensure no supply of deadly weapons in Africa, it has to keep doing a lot more job on this specific area than what it has done or doing today.

Therefore let us ask ourselves, why this happens mostly in Africa? Where is our future? Where is the destiny of youth recruited in rebellion’s troops? What’s the African-world future generation are we creating? Our choice is our destiny so let us wake up and built up our new Africa. We youth need food, quality education, better living condition and peace; we don’t need the deadly weapons which are exchanged with our diamonds and gold. We are tired to live in refugee camps and we are tired from keep running from our own countries.

Youth of the world need to join our efforts from wherever we are and in whatever we are planning to do; big and small countries make the whole world a better place to live and not just parts of it.

I belive that changes are archievable and they begin with us,! Most youth are aware of what goes on around the world compared to the old days. And because the next nation is built by youth it is upto us to extend our knowledge, information and creativity, put our fit on the ground, and make decisions for our nation considering our intrests in peace, poverty allienation, development and combating corruption. It is time to make a difference!

Others say «its better war as its a death of many» but nothing in the world which can denied everything in a human right like wars. We youth, have power to build and make changes. What hurts most is that if any chaos appear you can see how youth try as much as possible to make it really happen by making noise, stones, fire etc. I love this «Our choice is our destiny so let us wake up and built up our new Africa. its so sad, to test the impact of war..especially to the poor, actually the critical causative for all of this is Poverty , existence of Classes struggle in the society, Ethnicity , Religions, colonial perspectives and power politics, politics Now days it acts as the Business for self interest…when you go to international arena , such as international communities, it acts has the invisible non state actors for rising war..Now Go to Syria,Damascus….Country Now closing for Diplomatic Embassies, so what can we do for Africa, the Beautiful and Unique Island Madagascar ,its in trouble ..No Investor , no developmental process takes Place…it all about our faults and No One else , when we fight , No neighbor cries, its Only we Africa suffered, Go and ask Somalians , Libyan , our friends DRC, where can we get peace if peace ,its On Few People..! Realist says ,»To end the war is to start Another war..»

They said that we have so much challenge, But i have realize that we have only Two Challenges which is you and me…the rest are the outcome of you and i, and if we realy want to solve our challenges then we must learn to act upon instead of arguing – Rashid Adam

Though Carl Marx advocated that one o f the stage of development is conflict. But the African situation since after colonialism it becomes worse and worse and still no development whilist we have full of potentials. But the only thing to we Africans is being so sympathetic. It is high time now for us to persist on using diplomatic power in order to achieve our mission we looked for during decolonisation era. Its real profondly pinching to our continent that have endowed with various resources being in the scenerio of being victim of different disasters and catastrophies. AnAuthor ROBERT GUEST said Africa is the shackled continent, but why this? It is western conutris impacts and interests. Let this contries stop MONNGERISM to make Africans achieve our DREAM.

Dear Marta, Thank you for an interesting article. You mention border conflicts between Uganda/Tanzania in the 70`s, did that create suspision between the people along the boarder? If not, why? If yes, is that still going on?
Another question , you write » And we didn’t ….. fully organize ourselves for disciplinary measures against Al-Shabaab in Somalia; «, what caould have been – or even what can be done to face that problem?

I will be very grateful to get a response from you, since you are from that continent, and understand the situation better than I do.

Its sad that in our present day, we still see the continue rise in conflicts in Africa. its high time we hold our hands together not minding religion, ethic, or national diversity, but instead work together to eradicate not only the existing conflict but also sources of this conflict in other to avoid such in future. youth – the bulk of this falls on us.

i totally agree with you… the only first problem is that we didn’t agree in the first place. we choose to be tribal, corrupt, illegal, we choose war.maybe not by one action but by several. in this we can also make the decisions and choose to unity together as africa.
